Art Thingy 2009

Art Thingy” was the place to be Saturday May 30th 2009. This art festival hosted by the Kilgore Memorial Library showcased many creative endeavors happening in York County and had something for all ages! Take a look at our “Art Thingy” Flickr(tm) set to see what local artists brought to share.

Art Thingy kicked off the 2009 Kilgore Memorial Library Summer Reading Program. The 2009 themes for the reading program are as follows:

Elementary: “Be Creative @ Your Library”
Middle School & High School: “Express Yourself @ Your Library”
Adult: “Master the Art of Reading”

Art Thingy provided kids the chance to participate in creating art that will be displayed around York County (see details below).

Attention All Artists!

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this art festival a success. Initial responses indicated we succeeded in providing a venue for creative people and groups to demonstrate and discuss their art. So much so that we’ll get an early start planning a sequel in 2010. We’ll tweak the program to make it easier for artist volunteers to include an interactive aspect so kids (and adults if they are willing) can experience each art medium. Such interactive aspects can range from teaching kids how to hold a pencil or brush, to letting them help shape a pot, or learning how to do a dance step. We understand that some art forms may lend themselves more to an “audience participation” element than others. The success of this effort to get York County kids excited about art in all its forms is encouraging. So stay tuned, and consider joining us next time! The 2009 information on being an Artist Volunteer, appears in the Artist Volunteer pdf file at the bottom of the page. Some details may change for 2010.

A big thank you to service organizations, businesses, and individual volunteers who helped staff ART THINGY to help make the day run smoothly. The 2009 information on possible volunteer duties can be found through the Event Volunteer link at the bottom of the page. Some details may change for 2010.

May 30, 2009:
Youth Services Librarian / Assistant Director Amy Barr (402-363-2620) conceived, planned, and coordinated ART THINGY 2009. All who enjoyed the event can be thankful for her hard work to make it happen.

AUGUST 2009:
Tile murals and decorated ceiling tiles from ART THINGY are now in position in participating York locations. Get a copy of the folder, decipher the clues, and locate the ceiling tiles. A big thank you to all the participating York locations.

Help us evaluate ART THINGY by completing our brief survey (survey closes at 100 respondents).
