Robert Hanna: KILGORE MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Robert Hanna (1939 - ) was actively pursuing an artistic career in parallel with his Lincoln, Nebraska architectural practice in the mid-1980s when Kilgore Memorial Library was designed and constructed.   The York State Bank and Trust Company had commissioned Mr. Hanna to do a series of sketches of York area scenes for their 40th Anniversary 1984 calendar.   1984 also saw the publication of his Sketches of Nebraska.   It was a natural progression for Dean and Roger Sack of the York State Bank and Trust Company to commission Mr. Hanna to produce a sketch of the new Kilgore Memorial Library and present it to the library at the time of the library’s dedication in September 1986.

KML 350 The original watercolor tinted ink sketch is hanging the in the Library Director’s Office / Library Board Meeting Room where it is shielded from direct light which may fade the colors.   The library has reproduced the sketch on it’s informational brochures, library cards, and other pieces including letterheads.

In addition to the KILGORE MEMORIAL LIBRARY drawing, Kilgore Memorial Library’s holdings include Hanna’s  A Nebraska Portfolio (1992),   Sketches of Nebraska (1984), and copies of the 1984 Calendar distributed by the York State Bank and Trust Company.

Two of Robert Hanna’s works are featured in the Stuhr Museum Limited Edition Art Print Series   available through the museum’s shop at Grand Island, Nebraska.
