J.A. Parks Music -- Missing Octavo Numbers & Apparent Duplicate Numbers

We’d appreciate hearing from anyone with information that would assist us to fill out the J.A. Parks music lists.

We’d like to identify the titles matching the Octavo numbers noted below. The numbers and titles may appear on the fronts of other similar sheet music, or in advertising in music journals of Parks’ era. Or even better — we’d love to hear from anyone with a J.A. Parks Music Company catalog. We have seen snippets of Parks’ advertising in music journals and Catalog of Copyright entries using “google/books.”

The second brief section notes apparent duplicates.”

MISSINGNUMBERS
The song arrangements corresponding to the following 8vo numbers are not identified as of FEB. 10, 2010. There may be a few additional ones with numbers higher than No. 1800.

Most of a the “missing” numbers are for arrangements added to the octavos catalog after 1925, even though the initial copyright dates may be earlier. Most of them are pieces also printed in J.A. PARKS books where we have not found OCTAVO Number listings to make the correlation.

Kilgore Memorial Library is actively seeking J.A. PARKS MUSIC Company sheet music — we’d appreciate tips that would help us secure copies of all those we don’t already have. We’d also love to hear from anyone that might have a copy of a J.A. Parks Music Company catalog, or other listings of J.A. PARKS music from the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s.

APPARENT DOUBLE NUMBERS

There are several reasons for these apparent duplicates:

  • mis-reading the listing from which the 8vos page was compiled,
  • errors in the 8vo number lists printed on the sheet music covers, or
  • numbering changes during the course of the company’s history.
