Advertising coffee cups and similar utilitarian items are historic trivia. With a little investigation, they ultimately provide entry into the history of the business and economic life of the community they come from.

This page shows a selection of such items from York and the surrounding area. The caption above each picture is a link to a short narrative giving that item’s background when that could be determined.

We invite area residents who have “local mugs” not shown here to bring them in to the library to be photographed and added to this page. We are not trying to collect the cups, just the photos and stories.
