A 1940 article from the York Republican and her May 13, 1966 obituary in the York News-Times say that M. Jean Butter taught German and French at the York High School for several years (1910-??), and translated several secular and sacred songs into German for J.A. Parks.   She served in the Red Cross during the close of World War I and the immediate aftermath.   She returned to York and married George Holdeman in 1921.
